Portugal Is Awarded With 26 Michelin Stars

The country received nine more stars, comparing to 2016.

 

There are seven new Portuguese restaurants awarded with a Michelin star in the guide of 2017. These are joining the 14 winners in 2016, with which Portugal already had the best result ever. The country now has two more restaurants with two stars, The Yeatman in Vila Nova de Gaia, by chef Ricardo Costa and Il Gallo d'Oro in Funchal by chef Benoît Sinthon, who joins this category in Belcanto; also José Avillez in Lisbon,Ocean de Hans Neuner's in Porches,Algarve and Vila Joya by chef Dieter Koschina in Albufeira.

The new starred restaurants are: the Boa Nova Tea House by chef Rui Paula in Leça da Palmeira, Henrique Sá Pessoa's Alma in Lisbon, the Chef's Alexandre Silva's Loco in Lisbon, the William de Luís Pestana in Funchal, Miguel Lafan's L'And Vineyards in Montemor-o-Novo, Vítor Matos' Antiqvvm in Porto, and Lab by Sérgio Arola in Sintra.

In 2017 no Portuguese restaurant loses any star, and in total there are 21 Portuguese restaurants listed in the guide next year: 5 with two stars and 16 with one star. The presentation was made in Marroch - the banquet space of the Roca brothers, who hold the highest rating of three stars in El Célere de Can Roca.
