Construction of the New Lisbon Airport

The Portuguese capital needs more airport capacity

 

The beginning of the construction of the new Lisbon airport could happen in 2019, according to the information by Pedro Marques, Minister of Planning and Infrastructure. The official irreversibly considers the need to increase the airport capacity of Lisbon, stating, that the solution should be the construction of a new unit, with a complementary lane, in Montijo.

"It is irreversible , hat Humberto Delgado Airport needs an increase in capacity. This is evident to us not only with the passenger records, that have been reached, but also with the constraints that of the current airport, "explains the minister. Pedro Marques admits that this decision gained in having been taken a long time ago and that the works should only begin in 2019.

"Once the decision on which solution is more favorable has been made, a set of technical projects, new environmental declarations and public tenders must be carried out to start the works," explains the government official. Studies of environmental impact for the airport construction will be made by the ANA already in 2017, and the final location of the new airport can only be established at the end of 2017.
