New Low Cost Flights to the Azores

Low Cost Flights to Terceira

Operation will allow transportation of 100 thousand passengers per year

Two years after the liberalization of the Azores air route, Ryanair, a low cost aviation company, will begin flying to Terceira Island. The company began a flight operation on December 2, with four weekly flights to Lisbon and two to Porto, financed by public funds. This operation will allow the transportation of 100 thousand passengers per year.

The new model of air transportation between the Azores and mainland Portugal, which includes the liberalization of the routes of the islands of São Miguel and now of Terceira, entered into force in March 2015. At this time low cost operations began flying to São Miguel, with the airlines Ryanair and Easyjet, but the air connections to Terceira Island continued to be implemented throughout this year only by SATA and TAP.

In April 2016, Prime Minister António Costa announced a funding from the national tourism fund to promote initiatives of the Island, as well as improving the supply of transport, which included two new low-cost routes to Lisbon and Porto.
