Museums Are Free In 2017

Museums Are Free In 2017

You can retrieve the free tickets until 2pm

Next year, the entries to national museums and monuments are free again on Sunday mornings and holidays for all citizens, residing in Portugal. The proposal was approved on November 25 in the Assembly of the Republic.

This change in state budget for 2007 was an initiative of PCP and had the support of all parties except the Socialist Party, which was against. Free tickets can be available every Sunday and holidays between the opening hours of the museums and 14:00 in the afternoon.

This measure is not new in Portugal. Until 2011 access to museums and monuments was also free for these days, but with the entrance of the government to PSD / CDS coalition, it was restricted to the first Sunday of each month. In the proposal presented by the PCP it states, that the corresponding compensation will be guaranteed to cover the price of the spaces, through funds from the Cultural Development Fund.
