The Azores Are the New Iceland, Says Bloomberg

Azores Are the New Iceland

"The Azores offer beautiful landscapes that do not require photo filtering"

The US news agency Bloomberg believes that the Azores are the new 'hot' adventuredestination globally. The Bloomberg article published in November praises the Portuguese archipelago and classifies it as a unique destination that continues to exist unnoticed. "A peaceful kingdom of picturesque Iberian charm and stunning green filled with vines carved by a history of dramatic volcanic eruptions."

Bloomberg stated that "as Iceland, the Azores offer beautiful landscapes that require no photo filtering". The agency also said that SATA, the carrier to the Azores, will expand its network of flights to major European cities in 2017. "In theory, the company's ultra-affordable airfares should increase interest in the Azores," states the article.

In fact, the Azores were the region of Portugal with a stronger tourism growth in 2016. From January to September, the hotels in the area increased by 20.9% which corresponds to 1269 overnight stays, while the total income registered a growth of 30.5%.
